What are the new smoke alarm requirements?
Have you upgraded your smoke alarms?
New legislation comes into play on January 1st 2022 for ALL rental properties and properties for sale!
Warning!! Only 4 working months left to go!! What!!
What is needed? An alarm is required in every bedroom plus each level/area outside bedrooms of the property and they must communicate to each other - all alarms must be capable of sounding simultaneously. SO, chances are ALL current alarms in an investment property need to be replaced and additional alarms in the bedrooms installed. (Please note we are not licensed smoke alarm technicians and this is a general guide only)
Who can install them - unlike battery powered alarms now, a qualified electrician MUST install the new type of alarms.
If you haven't upgraded, we suggest upgrading very soon as there is likely to be a rush towards the end of the year.
Please note ALL residential owner occupied properties will be required to meet this legislation by 1st January 2027.
